Part II : Search of the Best (Boston Celtics)

Boston Celtic Best Player?
Let me start this off by saying sorry for not uploading in some time so personal reason is the cause of that but I'm ready to start taking this more seriously so I plan on new blogs coming out every 3 days so there's that.

Boston Celtics :
The Celtics were started in 1946 by the BAA (Basketball Association of America) which merged with the NBA in 1950. They were bad for most of there first few years in the BAA so when they went Into the NBA they wanted to start with a Bang. They did this by striking gold in 1950 with Red Auerbach as there coach if this was the Best Coach blog there would be an argument for Red Auerbach to be the best. also that year they passed on Bob Cousy then the Chicago Stags took him but when the Stags went Bankrupt Boston took Cousy who would become a Hall of Famer with the Celtics never leaving them.

They won the Division 6 times Straight but never winning the Championship. Then the Celtics make what at the time seem a disaster of a trade, Trading 7-Time All-Star Center and Hall of Famer Ed Macauley. and the draft right to Cliff Hagan who was a 6-time All-Star and Hall of Famer. Both of these Players would win a Championship Together lead by Bob Pettit who was in my Hawks Blog.
All of this was for the 2nd overall Draft Pick which they selected Bill Russell Who I will talk more about later.

Skipping Over to The next Player on my List 1978 Larry Bird was drafted number 6 overall by the Celtics was 2nd if not the first best player of the 80's next to he's rival and lifelong friend Magic Johnson. The First Season he came there they went 61-21 for the season winning the Atlantic Division. they sadly didn't win the Championship but they did have some in the future but I will talk more about that later.

Skipping Over again to are final suspect 1998 with the 10th Overall pick Paul Pierce unlike the others he didn't instantly help them win. You could blame this on ho they all had very good teams around them when they were drafted and you have a point but none the less he didn't help right away. They only won 19 games that year and had the worst record in the division. He helped them win later in his career but he needs two more stars which in my opinion he was the best of so now let's get to looking more in-depth about the players at hand.

1) Bob Cousy: Bob Cousy as stated was Drafted in the 1950s which was a different NBA then it is now back then the Center Dominated the Game. Players Like Wilt Chamberlin, George Mikan, and even Bill Russell where the main focus of the offensive, not the PG but this didn't stop Bob Cousy for his Career averaged 18 Point 5 Rebound and 7.5 Assist though in his best season 21.7 Point, 6.4 Rebounds, and 6.75 Assist.

His Awards are 13 Time All-Star, 8 Time Assist Champion, 6 Time NBA Champion, 12 Time All NBA, 2 times All-Star MVP, 1956-57 NBA MVP and to top it all off made the Hall of Fame. He also holds the record for assist in a Half putting up 19 Assist in a half against the Minneapolis Lakers
That was a lot and you might be thinking that we might be it and I was thinking that too BUT here the but. he shot 39.7 FG and averaged for his Career 37.5 FG If you have ever seen a Basketball Game log that's is Horrible Terrible so Bad but It does not take him out completely.

2) Bill Russell: Bill Russell was Drafted 2nd overall and was the Partner of Bob Cousy on the Early Celtics. was the CENTER Piece of the team (all Pun intended.) on his Career he averaged 15 Points 22 Rebounds, and 4 Assist. This was very good for the time he was not that much of a scorer but more of a rebounder Russel and Cousy were the Founders of a Fast Breaks so you can give them that.

His Awards are what most talk about they are. 12-time All-Star, 4-time Rebound Champion, 11 Time All NBA, 1 Time All-Defensive (Because his last season was when they introduced all Defense)
1962-63 All-Star Champion, 5x NBA MVP, and what everyone knows him about 11 Championship Rings. They are the most in NBA history and will probably be never broke he also has the 2nd all-time rank in Rebounds.

3) Larry Bird: Larry Bird was Drafted 6th by the Celtics he led them to a Championship in his 3rd Year and was one of the many Greats in Celtics History. He Averaged 24 Points, 10 Rebounds, and 6.3 assists he was one of the most effective scorers in NBA History and 1 of 2 players to make 50-40-90 Club in multiple years. In my opinion, he was the 2nd Greatest player in the 80s and top 20 ever. (Maybe at the end of this series I will do a top 100 Player of all time Comment if you want to see it happen!)

His Awards are 12-time All-Star, 3 Time NBA Champion, 10 Time All NBA, 3 times All-Defensive, 1-time All-Rookie, 1981-82 All-Star MVP, 2 time NBA Finals MVP, 3 time NBA MVP, 1 time Rookie of the year.

4) Paul Pierce: Paul was Drafted 10th by the Celtics and is the only player on this list that didn't stay with them his whole Career but with how many Draft picks Brooklyn gave them I would have done it too. For his career in Boston, He averaged 22 Points, 6 Rebounds, and 4 Assist. Paul was the face of the Celtics for the Early 2000s so it makes sense why he is up here.

His Awards are 10-time All-star, 1 time NBA Champion, 1x Finals MVP, 1998-99 Rookie Team, 4x All-NBA. out of all the Players, he is probably the worst when It comes to awards.

So whose the Winner? It's tough because the Two best in my Eyes are Bird and Russell But I Think I'm going to say its Bird. Bird had a Worse team then Russell and played in a harder League then Him so I think It goes to Bird.

Signing Off,
Jacob From Rec Center
